Most of these primary sources are dance manuals. Stand-alone descriptions of a single dance are noted with  »  before the title.

Dancing master and social dance periodicals like Dancing Times and La Danse are included in this listing. Newspaper articles are not. Also not listed are books about theatrical dance, etiquette books, fiction/satire about dance, country and folk dance, secondary sources, and dance histories.
